Kitesurfing Wijk aan Zee

Wijk aan Zee in The Netherlands

This page will tell you all about kitesurfing Wijk aan Zee.

Short summary

The spot Wijk aan Zee is a dream location for all kind of surfers living in northwest Europe. The winds in The Netherlands can be really powerful and when this happens Wijk aan Zee is crowded with windsurfers, kitesurfers and surfers from within the Amsterdam area and even from Germany. Be aware that you respect the other surfers in the area before launching your kite. Make sure you arrive early, because the parking can get crowded. If there is no space for parking, you can always enter the beach a bit further from the entrance. About 500 meters from the main beach there is an old bunker. There is an entrance to the beach next to the bunker. The beach and the water is less crowded here, so there is a way to avoid the crowd.

The large steel company behind the beautiful dunes make the background view of the beach just awesome. If you are lucky you will spot a seal while surfing. The main winds come from the southwest direction. There is a large pier which protects the waves from crashing by the wind. With a strong southwester wind some big swell can break close to the beach. This makes the place great for waveriding.

After your session, relax and take a beer with some good chicken in the beach tent at the beach.
